Our guideline is that swimmers must be able to swim 1000m in an hour (any mix of strokes, including breaks), and that they can already swim 2-3 of the competitive strokes (i.e. freestyle [front crawl] and breaststroke or backstroke) to join our Masters club. (It is not necessary to already be able to swim the minimum distance shown as the usual workout length in some of the publications [e.g. 1800-3500m]). Our Masters group caters to a very wide range of abilities, ages and goals. The large majority of Carleton's Masters swimmers do not compete but enjoy the training for its fitness and social aspects. There is an opportunity to compete if you are interested and we do have some very accomplished competitive Masters members. (Private lessons taught by a Masters coach are also available.)

Registration:

For all programs and memberships, register at the Carleton University Athletics Customer Service Office (Main Floor) or Welcome Centre or call 613-520-4480. You can register on-line at http://www.carleton.ca/athletics for Masters swimming and morning memberships only.

Carleton Masters Costs:

There are two parts to the price. First, to swim with Carleton Masters you must have a Carleton Athletics Membership (or be a full-time Carleton student or staff member). Secondly, there is a charge for the Masters program(s) of interest. Details on the membership and programs are given below.

There are many membership options. Note that all 12-month memberships include free parking before 10am and after 4pm on weekdays, and all day on weekends.

Fall 2022

Registration opened Monday August 15 at noon. It is recommended that you register on-line at https://rec.carleton.ca/. To use a credit on your account, register by phone or in person. You must be an Athletics member (staff, student, or community membership) to swim with Masters, and must have a valid membership when you register.

Winter 2022

Registration for the Winter 2022 session started at noon on Wed Dec 6. It is recommended that you register on-line at https://rec.carleton.ca/. You must be an Athletics member (staff, student, or community membership) to swim with Masters. Proof of COVID-19 vaccination is required to enter the Carleton campus. Details on cuScreen (used for proof of vaccination, daily COVID screening, and building check in via QR codes): https://carleton.ca/covid19/cuscreen/.

UPDATE: Programs will not start until January 31. Note that the session has been extended by a few weeks. Those previously registered will receive a credit for the difference in cost.
